Talius rollshutters were selected by the National Research Council Canada, for a comprehensive study on the energy efficiency of exterior solar shading versus interior solar shading.
The study concluded that, when closed during the day & night in summer:
rollshutters reduced the daily average electricity demand for cooling by 50-80% and based on the time-of-use pricing structure, this translated into a cost savings of approximately 34%
When closed at night in winter:
rollshutters reduced heat loss by 19% resulting in a savings of approximately 4% (± 2%) in energy use
interior window surfaces were 3-5°C warmer which results in a significant reduction of moisture condensation on interior window surfaces
